Overview

Help improve the poor statistics the UK has in successful cardiac arrest patients. Without by-stander Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, nobody will survive a cardiac arrest. However, with early recognition and immediate Basic Life Support (BLS) you will increase their odds-on survival.
The use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) will furthermore support a positive patient outcome.

Assessment method
The course is assessed be the trainer throughout the training delivery of learner understanding. The course will include practical assessments.

Aim of Qualification
The objective of the qualification is to benefit Learners by preparing them to deal with a patient in cardiac arrest, linking the ‘chain of survival’ to promote positive patient outcomes.
Intended Audience
This qualification is for people who have a specific interest or responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, e.g. a first aider, in being able to provide BLS when dealing with an emergency situation which may involve using an AED.
Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of the training and be able to perform practical tasks at floor level. There are no other formal entry requirements, but we strongly recommend that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy or equivalent.
Requalification Requirements
This qualification is valid for a period of 1 year. The Learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
The training venue should be quiet and undisturbed. Staff should not be expected to be on duty. Staff attending should remain for the entire length of the session.
