Qualification overview

This Qualsafe Awards (QA) qualification is for people who work with or look after children, enabling them to have a basic knowledge of how to deal with paediatric first aid situations, illnesses, injuries and emergencies.

Aim

The aim of the qualification is to enable Learners to attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of Paediatric first aid situations and Paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies. Learners should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in situations which can arise when looking after children.

Intended audience

This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities, to provide first aid to children (including babies) when dealing with an emergency situation, chronic or sudden paediatric illness or Paediatric injury.

Note: This qualification fulfills Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within The Child Care Register guide).

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but to benefit from the learning we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent. Learners must be at least 16 years old prior to registration.

Requalification requirements

The QA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF) is valid for a period of 3 years, within which time the Learner will need to re-take the course and assessments in order to remain qualified. It is regarded as best practice for those holding first aid qualifications to undertake annual refresher training, this does not however form part of a QCF unit or qualification. Requalification training should be delivered in no less than 12 hours (2 days) excluding breaks.

Note: Requalification is actually the original course.
